REVIEW: East Avenue

200 Provost St. New Glasgow, NS

East Avenue sits in the heart of downtown New Glasgow and is the self-proclaimed place for big city feel with small town charm. They have a wide and varying menu which caters to a range of eaters, but this may also be their downfall, as it lacks real focus or refinement. Their food is good, but it feels like they are also a bit lost.

The space itself is divided into two separate and quite different rooms. The main dining room is large with high ceilings and an energetic feel. It has an old factory or garage sensibility to it. The other room, where you enter the restaurant is more intimate and has the bar front within the dining space itself.

The food is good here. Their dishes have huge portions, and the meals are quality. It is a touch rustic and unrefined, but the flavour overall is on point. But as stated before, it does feel a bit lost as they are trying to cater to everyone and therefore not catering to anyone. It is a typical undefined Canadian restaurant.

East Avenue has definitely brought a big city feel to New Glasgow. It’s one of the nicer places to eat in town and they are popular amongst the locals. They are usually busy, and it is a good place to go out with friends. They are friendly and they have something for everyone. They can just see improvement
through a little focus.
